Why Valve Stem Extenders Are Essential for You and Your RV

If you are an avid traveller and love all that your RV or camper has to offer, you understand the importance of your tires. Ensuring that you get the most out of your RV and have the peace of mind that comes with knowing your vehicle is safe will make your excursions all the more enjoyable. On a long trip, the last things you want to deal with are faulty tires and a hard to reach valve stem. Before you head out on your trip, make sure you check your tire pressure, and consider picking up some valve stem extenders.

Why You Need to Use Valve Stem Extenders
You should be checking the tire pressure of your RV or camper regularly, before any trip and after any period of storage. For shorter haul trips, make sure to check the pressure before and after your trip.

When checking your pressure, take tire pressure readings when the tires are ‘cold,’ which simply means that the tires have been driven on for less than one mile. When tires are in a ‘cold’ state, they are less susceptible to outside pressure changes created by weather and other external factors. When the tires are in a ‘hot’ state, their pressure can range anywhere between 10 to 15 psi higher than when in a ‘cold’ state, making it harder to get an accurate reading of your tires’ pressure. If you cannot check your tires in a ‘cold’ state, make sure you account for the calculations and adjustments that must be made to balance for the increase in pressure while keeping both sides of the axle within only a couple pounds of one another.

If you’ve done any type of vehicular travel, you’ve almost certainly had the experience of stopping at a gas station or truck stop to check and subsequently fill your tires. However, most of the equipment that is available roadside cannot always provide the essential access to some of the hard to reach spots in your car. Taking advantage of valve stem extenders will make this process much easier. The valve extenders work to bring the valves out, making them increasingly easy to reach and properly service.

How Do Valve Stem Extenders Work?
This is not as clear a question as it might seem. With several styles and materials available to choose from, the functionality of each specific model differs slightly. Inner tires require routing for easy access, and you can easily find molded, flexible extenders to meet your needs. Outside tires contain inward pointing stems, making them difficult to reach with air gauges, air chucks, and other specialized connectors that require careful use for proper service. You can easily find molded, angled models as well as flex fit tubing-style extenders for outside tires. You can choose extenders in stainless steel, braided, molded, rubber, and plastic styles.
